46th Kontiki Conference MÜNSTER
28 FEBRUARY – 1 MARCH 2013
Multiapplication – All on one card
Multi-application – the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Synergies result whenever close and distant relatives such as bus, rail, car, bicycle and ship come together with e.g. theatre, library or swimming pool in order to put their mobility and service offerings on one e-ticket. The agenda also features the Augsburger Verkehrsgesellschaft's customer card, the eSemester ticket from the University of Duisburg-Essen, multi-modality in Belgium, marketing strategies for multi-modal mobility and a panel discussion.
Three forums will provide the opportunity for you to learn about the chances and challenges of multi-modal concepts, ID ticketing and MVGmeinRad, the innovative system of bicycle hire in Mainz, to grapple with the research findings of the University of Cologne and their implications for public transport and to discuss whether a ticket must be included on a chip. The plenary session will open on the Friday with the subject of combining mobility, payment function and municipal services on a single platform and with (((eTicket Germany NEWS, which this time will be taking a look at Europe. The highly topical subject of SEPA and smartphone ticketing will be presented and debated at length in a panel discussion.
Cooperation has always been and still is the secret to success. Kontiki is bundling a range of competences under the umbrella of multi-application in order to realise creative ideas in the field of public transport. Come and discuss with us the potential that intelligent integration holds in store. Münster will provide you with a valuable stimulus about how you can balance what is technically feasible with economic considerations. We look forward to seeing you in the heart of Westphalia.

44th Kontiki Conference Cologne
June 21–22, 2012

The main theme of the Kontiki Conference Cologne was networked communication in electronic fare management (EFM): people – data – systems, whereby the focus was placed on communication with and by the involved parties. Implementing this strategy into business activities is crucial even for the most brilliant EFM project plan, and achieving synergies is strategically relevant and in no way trivial. Interworking beyond functional, hierarchal, and even company boundaries combines differing and/or complementary resources and competences. Social capital and good relationships built on trust are essential for successful co-operation to ensure that the eTicketing project will become more than the sum of its individual parts. Communication governs success.128 delegates from six European Countries came to Cologne for the 44th Kontiki Conference and participated in discussions about how to master successful project launches. The plenary sessions included excellent presentations by Dr. Schmidt-Freitag, Transport Association Rhine-Sieg, Alain Flausch, Secretary General of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), Jürgen Fenske, President of the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) and Chairman of the Board of Cologne Transport Authority. Birgit Strecker, Transport Association Rhine-Sieg,, and Holger Fritsch, Local Transport Rhineland, presented communication solutions for huge events with the VeRSiert tool. Hendrik Wagner, Transport Association Oberelbe (VVO), presented three solutions for intermodal transport sales concepts within a region served by several transport authorities. Dr. Carsta Herpich, Berlin Transport Company (BVG), presented their comprehensive training strategy. BVG further expands its communication to its partners and subcontractors. In short: The introduction of complex systems requires a learning organisation. Sean MacNiven, SAP Germany AG & Co. KG, gave a presentation titled “Internal Communication – A Changing Field”. Social behavior begins from inside and Mobile Internet is the communication pathway of the future. The Round table discussion included Peter Burggraf, Cologne Transport Authority, Ralf Nachbar, Rhine-Main Transport Association Service Co., and Sean MacNiven, SAP Germany. Sjef Janssen, VDV Core Application GmbH & Co. KG, reported in (((eTicket Germany News that 140 Core Application participation contracts have already been signed. The completed and published version 1.1.08 VDV Core Application software was introduced by Hartmut Loerch.
The conference program included forums, details of which are available on the Kontiki Forum page. The results of the discussions in short: Forum 1: current cell-phone ticket systems & the VDV Smartphone Strategy have identical goals and can be seen as complimentary to one another. Forum 2: the software for d(((eti, Internet distribution of eTickets, was presented. Forum 3: a NFC Strategy Roundtable was founded. Customers should be able to use their cell phones as tickets, security questions and prices remain to be resolved. Forum 4 considered means of financing the high technical requirements for eTicketing projects. The topic was examined from the point of view of a transport association, a consultant, and a manufacturer. In the KoMi Forum (Communication and Migration), the developed communications platform was explained and went live on the Internet during the presentation.
New technologies and changing customer behaviour require new channels and means of communication. The Kontiki Conference in Cologne presented the benefits and effects of internal communications.
